A Great Horned Owl named Gazeau.
Gazeau fell from the nest when very young. The damage was too severe to be healed, so she became an ambassador bird for All About Owls in Petaluma. I was very lucky to get to work with her. She always let me know that she was only tolerating me. She is a cautious bird for one with so much power in her talons, but she also has a lot of spunk.
This painting is a watercolor on illustration board.
Wildlife Gallery
Painting animals has an interesting set of challenges and I put it off for a very long time. I wanted to respect them, which means allowing for the good and the bad. When possible, I’ve included their environment, since blending into it is one of the things they do so well. That often means painting chaos.
